I've noticed that my mainsheet doesn't run out freely. I've checked the blocks and they all run sweetly, so I suspect that the rope itself it causing the problem.

If I buy a new mainsheet, can someone suggest a better type of rope to use, please?

Cheers

Not sure if anyone reads this forum, but just in case, I have bought a Rooster mainsheet. Thinner and more slippy than the old one - much much better.

Not many replies on this forum, but lets try to fix that.

On the Mainsheet running poblem, I noted at the SCSC event on 7th May 2016 that many people have a hanging sleeve below the boom which the mainsheet runs through (not inside the bbom). This would certainly stop having to physically shove the boom out all the time, especially at the windward mark.

Perhaps if I know its correct name it might appear on chandelry sites but I'm blowed if I can find it on Rooster / Purple / RS Sailing. So whats it called?  and where do I get one?

Hi guys,
The thing on the boom is just a piece of old sailcloth attached with duct tape!
I bet you have an old sail stashed in the shed you just couldn't throw away and if you want fancy black duct tape to match the boom they do it at LIDL once in a while.
I will bring some DIY kits to the next meeting at Burnham in July for anyone who hasn't sorted this by then.
Cheers,
Nick.
